"Do more with less" and "make your own" are two of my guiding principles. At the same time, as every crafts person knows, good tools and good gear make all the difference in wilderness living, and in life in general. I get asked a lot for gear recommendations, and often I say "I don't really know, I don't use a lot of name brands." It's important to me that when I when I do, it is a product that I really believe in.

Here are some brands that I feel good about recommending, as well as a list of the 10 items I brought out with me on Alone Season 6 and Alone Frozen

Springbar tents and Winnerwell woodstoves

One of the things I am best known for from the Alone show are the two sturdy shelters I built.

While I love building a home for myself in the wilderness, having a fabulous and portable shelter that goes up quickly is a huge advantage and for most people, makes a difference in how much time we spent getting out into nature and how much we enjoy it.

I am a big fan of Springbar tents, which are sturdy, good in wind and snow, dreamy to hang out in (over 6' 5" inside), and can be set up by one person in roughly 20 minutes! Try that with a standard wall tent! Use the code Woniya-10 for a 10% off all their products.

The models you see here, the Classic Jack and the SkyLiner are made to accommodate woodstoves, and I have kept them toasty down to about 5 degrees F with my Winnerwell Medium Nomad woodstove.
I also recommend Winnerwell stoves and products- well made, easy to use, lots of very cool accessories (check out the biscuits I made in the pipe oven), and compact to travel with. The code Woniya-10 will also get you a 10% discount at Winnerwell.

The Woniya Thibeault Signature Survival Card

I have never considered myself a "survivalist,"  nor into fancy survival gear, but I am absolutely a fan of having basic tools on one's person at all times. When the Grim Survival company reached out to me to ask me to design on e of their survival cards, I knew I wanted it to be practical, fun, and with a very different tone than most tactical "survival gear"

“We wouldn't be here today if our ancestors hadn’t learned to live and thrive in the wild with the resources around them, their ingenuity, and the creative capacity of their own two hands. Those capacities are still alive in you, and reconnecting with them brings fulfillment on many levels.” – Woniya Thibeault

“Woniya has that special talent of being able to take a complex topic and break it down into simpler steps, so that it’s not overwhelming. And she explains the reasoning behind each step of the process, so it is easier to remember.”  – Indy
